Kerala Still Running State Lotteries!

Lotteries have been banned in many states in India and only a few states still run it. Mainly the poor states which do not have much revenue gathering opportunities run lotteries in order to earn some revenue. But you would be shocked to know that Kerala, a state which flaunts its high literacy level as compared to other places in India, and high remittances from Keralites settled abroad, is still running lotteries.

The Kerala state lottery department Monday announced the results of Kerala Win Win Lottery W-591. The first prize winner is ticket number WW-312252 which bagged a whopping Rs 75 lakh. The second prize was drawn by ticket number WN-191518 which bagged Rs 5 lakh, while third prize worth Rs 1 lakh was won by ticket numbers ...

The price of a single ticket is Rs 40, while the entire book costs Rs 750. If the prize money is less than Rs 5,000, the winners can claim the money from any lottery shop in Kerala. If the amount won is above Rs 5,000, the winners will have to surrender their tickets before a bank or government lottery office with id proofs.

With seven daily and multiple bumpers draws, the lottery is one of the biggest cash flows in Kerala. The state government organizes four festival bumper draws — Onam, Vishu, Christmas and Pooja/Dussehra. There are two seasonal jackpots, the monsoon and summer bumper.

No doubt, the communists led government of Kerala should ban lottery system as soon as possible and should be ashamed of running lotteries to cheat poor people from the state.
