Delhi: AAP Government Gives Monthly Salary to Muslim Imams and Muezzins; and None to Other Religions

Do you know that the AAP led Delhi State Government made a law a year ago that is just for one community? CM said the government would give Rs 18,000 (up from Rs 10,000) and Rs 16,000 (up from 9,000) per month to imams and muezzins, respectively, of all mosques in the capital using tax payers' money.

Delhi Waqf Board has been giving honorarium to imams and muezzins for decades.  But the board enhanced the amount paid as salary in January 2019. Muslim Imams' salary was increased by 80% and Muezzins' salary was increased by 60%.

Of about 2,000 mosques in Delhi, Imams and Muezzins of about 200 such establishments get salary from the board. Objecting to the monetary benefits given to them, Pravesh Verma of BJP questioned why Delhi government was not giving similar remuneration to Hindu and Sikh priests.

"The government forgot the priests of temples and granthis of gurdwaras. If our government comes to power, we will not discriminate against anyone. But CM says that salary will only be given to imams and muezzins.", Said Pravesh Varma, Delhi.
